Samford Cemetery

( Florida )

Most of you don't know that Jean and I moved to Central Florida on June 1st! There are many reasons for this -- losing my job (outsourcing, etc), but mainly because NJ is getting too expensive, and, frankly, too many things about it are beginning to SUCK!

I'm not sure how it's gonna affect the title of this site........i might just add "Florida" as a sub-heading. I must admit, NJ spoiled me in that i was used to MANY old buildings (going back to the 1700's!), but down here, everything is so.........NEW..................

I found the tiny Samford cemetery on an atlas i picked up. One eve, we took our equipment, and headed there..............It was at the end of a seldom-used road, in a small clearing. A strange thing about it was that most of the people buried there passed over AFTER 1980; there WERE a couple of old stones, but most were NEW........

An interesting stone:

MANY of the graves were covered with plastic flowers and all kinds of stuff, which made 'em look VERY "tacky":

A rare, "sunburst" orb:

A second later.....GONE!

The reason i call the orb a "sunburst orb" is because of the "rays" seemingly streaming our from the center, like the sun. These are EXRTREMELY rare -- the only other one i've ever "captured" was in the celler of the Flanders Hotel in Ocean City, NJ. Compare the two:
